ADAC (348, 732, 887 AED).
Description of the Project
Construction of the Landside Primary and Secondary Roads Component Project which is
a part of the Midfield Terminal Complex (MTC) for the Abu Dhabi International Airport
Development.
The project is based on a Main Contractor contract with a total construction period of 790
calendar days, including 5.5km of primary roads of 2 to 4 lanes, 8km of grade secondary
roads, 170, 000m2 of Asphalt surfacing for the primary and secondary roads, 11 No. post
tensioned bridge structures with spans in range of 36m to 50m with total length of 1.7km,
700, 000m3 of embankment and 1.7km of MSE Wall, and 4 electrical substation buildings
and associated electrical and mechanical installations.
The Primary Roads provide access and egress from the E-10 highway to the Midfield
Terminal Building (MTB). This looped roadway will provide the principal access point to
and from the MTB and will connect into the new E-10 intersection that is being
simultaneously constructed under a separate Abu Dhabi Department of Transport
contract. Between the E-10 highway and the MTB, the roadway is elevated on a
combination of cast-insitu post-tensioned bridge structures and embankment

construction with earth reinforced walls provided at locations where embankment slopes
cannot be accommodated. In addition to the MTB, the Primary Roads also provide
structurally elevated access to the upper (third) floor of the MTB car park that represents
the principal parking facility for the terminal building. The approximate road area is
120, 000m2 with a total length of approximately 5, 600m with 2-4 lanes in each direction.
The Secondary Roads loop from the boundary of the airport with the E-10 intersection
and comprise of an at-grade local road network that is connected to the Primary Roads.
The Secondary Roads will provide access to the Employees Consolidation Centre, the
Long Term Car Park and the Landside Goods and Waste Facility that are critical facilities
for the functionality of the MTB. They will also serve the future development of the Airport
City commercial district. The road network comprises mainly two lanes in each direction
with roundabouts provided for traffic control at each of the aforementioned facilities. The
total length of secondary roads is approximately 6, 200m with mainly 2-lanes in each
direction.
