  • June 2009 to June 2011

Worked as a process engineer in the US$1 billion upgrade project at SAMIR Refinery. My responsibilities included process units calculations to verify design specifications are met during test run. Also, performed process optimization for Hydrogen production unit, Diesel Hydrotreater and Fuel Hydrocracker unit. I was also heavily involved in the precomissioning and commissioning activities of the upgrade project units.

Technical Experience:

Hydrogen Production Unit:

- Use of ProII model to monitor the performance of HPU during test run
- Primary steam reformer efficiency verification.
- Calculation of Zinc Oxide bed life and evaluation of pre-reformers' catalyst activity, temperature profile and life.

Diesel Hydrotreater Unit:

- Development of overall process monitoring tool
- Evaluation of catalyst performance, which includes WABT, LHSV and deactivation calculations.
- Calculations of feed exchangers duty and fouling rate.
- New piping system project to introduce Light Straight Run Naphtha from Merox unit to DHT that involved; pipelines sizing, pressure drop calculations and control valves preliminary design.

Fuels Hydrocracker Unit:

- Feed pumps performance calculations.
- Determination of 1st stage and 2nd stage reactors conversion.
- Evaluation of 1st and 2nd stages catalyst performance that includes
Catalyst Average Temperature CAT, 1st and 2nd order kinetics
normalization and rate of deactivation.
- Calculation of fractionator Recycle Cut Point and products yields.

Operation Experience:

- Pre-commissioning & commissioning of upgrade project units: Hydro-testing, chemical cleaning, leak tests, tightening tests, inspection and dry-outs of heaters, columns and reactors, mechanical test runs for compressors and pumps, catalyst loadings and sulfiding.
